That In Between Season

Transition time.
Labor Day weekend frenzy
all but forgotten.
Paths quiet now.
Leaves yet to fall,
but a slight chill
from the north
lingers in the air.
A cinnamon candle
burns on the mantle.
Like squirrels, we gather.
Winter jacket on order
from LandsEnd.
Nutcracker tickets purchased.
Apples and pears piled high
on farm stand shelves.
Mums and pumpkins appear
on porches and steps.
Anticipation of
the golden season
eases the pang
of summer’s passing.

About Mary Jane

I am a retired English teacher. My husband, Frank, and I have lived on Cape Cod since 2000. I am a lifelong bread baker and writer and have been posting a blog on Falmouth Patch for the last few years. Savory Seasons has been largely devoted to recipes and food in general. I am hoping to expand my focus in this new blog.
