Bread is on the rise as I write this.
Our standard wheat bread
that I make at least once a week.
The bread that is so routine
that it requires no recipe.
A process so common that
it requires little thought.
It’s the bread we reach for
for morning toast, or as a healthy snack
with a smear of peanut butter.
No additives or preservatives
or stabilizers to extend shelf life.
Whole grain flour, yeast,
a little honey, milk and an egg.
Just wanted to celebrate it.
To give it its rightful place
in the sun instead of relegating it
to the routine and mundane.
