The Ivy

Dragged a rocking chair out on the deck.
Early morning too beautiful to waste
waiting for the official deck chairs to be free
of moisture from last night’s rain.
Sky so blue it almost hurts to look at it.
Facing sideways, with the sun at my back,
I’m captivated by the ivy. Every year,
it climbs higher and higher on the old oak tree,
leaving its earthly foothold to reach for the heavens.

About Mary Jane

I am a retired English teacher. My husband, Frank, and I have lived on Cape Cod since 2000. I am a lifelong bread baker and writer and have been posting a blog on Falmouth Patch for the last few years. Savory Seasons has been largely devoted to recipes and food in general. I am hoping to expand my focus in this new blog.
