Call of the Mountains

IMG_2452

We gave up
our little foothold
in the mountains
and settled by the sea.
A good decision;
the right one for us.
But the mountains still call,
and we answer when we can,
to savor once again
the sunlight filtered
through ever so tall trees.
The icy streams tumbling
over rock formations
worn smooth by season
after season of moving waters.
The quiet woods
where change occurs slowly.
Nature’s gentle hand reaching out
to encourage us to slow down.
To pause and reflect on
this time, this place, this moment.

About Mary Jane

I am a retired English teacher. My husband, Frank, and I have lived on Cape Cod since 2000. I am a lifelong bread baker and writer and have been posting a blog on Falmouth Patch for the last few years. Savory Seasons has been largely devoted to recipes and food in general. I am hoping to expand my focus in this new blog.
