Funny thing about packing these days. My friend Joan and I once laughed about the fact that all we needed in a cosmetic bag was Oil of Olay and a toothbrush, and we were good to go. That was light years ago, pre-marriage and kids, careers, and now, retirement.
A lot more gets tucked into that cosmetic bag now. Not so much makeup. More creams and ointments! The face cream has been upgraded to Origins Plantscription. At the top of the list, however, is a vial of eye drops for the plane-induced dry eye that I’ve learned to expect. In addition to the need for more moisture is the need for color. In goes the tube of lipstick. I rarely wore lipstick until the last few years. We seem to lose color as we age. Lips that once had color on their own now need a little help.
The cosmetic bag may contain a few more items than in years past, but some things don’t change. Excitement about a trip to Disney World still bubbles. Age hasn’t dimmed the thrill of the first sight of Cinderella’s castle, or the delight of wandering through Epcot’s Flower Festival.
Can’t wait to put on shorts and sandals, smooth on some sunscreen and head for Thunder Mountain. No lipstick needed!
