I was scanning some of my favorite food blogs this morning while having coffee, and I saw that Food52’s topic was the best “back of the box” recipes. Hersey’s chocolate cake immediately popped into my mind. It was on theirs as well. They highlighted the recipe on the back of the Hersey’s Cocoa can as the ultimate chocolate cake.

I’ve been making this cake for as long as I can remember. It’s our standard birthday cake and really any occasion cake. It has been passed to the next generation because it’s Betsy’s go-to cake as well. Why mess with perfection?

When people rave about my chocolate cake, my response is always, “You too can make this. The recipe is on the back of the can of Hersey’s Cocoa!” I’m not going to reprint the recipe here. It’s only fair to Hersey that you buy the can of cocoa. All I can say is that you won’t regret the purchase, or the effort involved in making the cake. It really is that good.
