It’s All About the Children

christmas cape 1

Quiet start to what promises to be a busy day.
Culmination of weeks of planning and anticipation.
Unseasonable rain continuing to stream
down windows and soak ribbons
on wreaths hung on doors.
But it matters not at all.
It’s all about the children.
It’s the best of all gifts
to be able to share in their delight
and sense of wonder
on this day when magic rules.
When reindeer fly and wished for treasures,
carefully scribed in letters to Santa,
appear under the tree.
The fleeting nature of this unquestioning belief
makes it all the more precious.
Perfect would be a world
where all children could share in the bounty,
and all adults could capture a bit of the magic.

About Mary Jane

I am a retired English teacher. My husband, Frank, and I have lived on Cape Cod since 2000. I am a lifelong bread baker and writer and have been posting a blog on Falmouth Patch for the last few years. Savory Seasons has been largely devoted to recipes and food in general. I am hoping to expand my focus in this new blog.
