Sam and I have a new morning spot. A December spot.
We share the tree and the peace of early morning.
Sam doesn’t question the wonder of a tree that appears inside.
Nor does he bat at the ornaments as his younger self had done.  
He just accepts these things and burrows 
under the branches to settle in for a nap.
I sit in a chair, coffee in hand,
capturing a bit of the wonder
of the season reflected in the lights.
