Season of Lists

My computer seems very slow this morning. Sort of mirroring my response to things so far today. It’s always a bit of a wonder to me that I once did so much without missing a beat. It was a busy weekend, without question, culminating in a dinner party yesterday. But it was only for six people. There was a time when I easily entertained double that number. Those were also the years of working full time, and the really memorable years that I added grad school to the mix!

I still enjoy entertaining, but everything just takes longer than it once did, including bouncing back after a hectic weekend. Recognizing and accepting that fact takes a little doing sometimes. I still think of myself as much younger than my years would indicate. My guess is, we all feel that way. And that’s not a bad thing.

Anyway, what I think of as the season of lists begins in earnest this week. Thanksgiving first. Since I’m not in charge of the actual meal, my list for that holiday just contains a few items. But then, the holiday crush begins in earnest. Grateful that the calendar and lists contain pleasurable events and gifts that can be ordered on Amazon!

And then there are the cookies. I found the tins that I wanted at the Christmas Tree Shop last week. This year, I’ve decided to focus on one cookie, instead of an assortment. Everyone’s favorite nut balls are getting the nod. The ingredients have been added to the “ingredients for baking” list.
