Toss a necklace
of acorns and berries
round the necks
of the sentries that
watch over the kitchen.
Savory smells of
pumpkin pie
and roasting meat
and bubbling soups
surround their roost
above the stove.
The warm, cozy
nesting time is
close at hand.
