Dust Off The Bike Helmets!

IMG_1443Just glanced at the weather forecast for this week. Remembering that there was always a stretch of hot, humid weather to usher in each new school year. I might miss the excitement and the promise of new beginnings, but I don’t miss the unairconditioned classroom!

January 1 may be the official New Year’s Day, but September is really when the year begins in earnest. Beaches are empty in spite of lingering heat. For parents, teachers and kids, the focus shifts to school rooms and ball fields. Soccer balls replace beach balls, and cleats cover once bare feet.

My goal for this unofficial new year: Get the bikes down from their racks in the garage and dust off the helmets. With the kids back in school and the tourists in their home towns, the bike path will be wide open.

Being able to take advantage of a peaceful bike path on weekdays in the Fall is a definite perk of being retired.
