Small Break With Tradition

We went to a wedding yesterday The daughter of dear friends was married in what started as a very traditional ceremony. Church, bridesmaids, music, flowers. Sweet young couple radiating sheer delight as they stood together at the altar.

Tradition continued with pictures, cocktails, dinner. And then the break with standard practice that will linger in memory. Instead of the traditional cake, there was a Sundae Bar, where representatives from Ben and Jerry’s scooped ice cream and guided people towards toppings, much to the delight of the assembled guests. The young couple shared a bowl of ice cream.

It’s often the unexpected little deviation from the normal flow of things that brings a smile and creates a lasting memory.
