Weather Issues

Hard to think beyond the weather at the moment. The impending storm, while not predicted to be the hurricane that is threatening the Outer Banks, is certainly disrupting holiday plans. Falmouth’s fireworks have been moved to Sunday. That’s sad for the many people who will be leaving the Cape on Sunday morning.

The thing that really puzzles me is the thinking behind moving the Boston fireworks to tonight. It’s a work day in town. Traffic will be a nightmare for both the people trying to get out of the city and for those trying to get in for the festivities. Having travelled to the Cape before holidays for years before this became home, I’m very conscious of traffic issues. And very grateful not to have to deal with them.

Weather shouldn’t matter so much, but unfortunately, it does. Keeping things in perspective however, staying off the beach for a day or so is light years better than being faced with an evacuation order like some of the people in North Carolina. Certainly a memorable, if not pleasurable, July 4’th for people visiting the Outer Banks. Makes one happy to be on the simply soggy Cape.
