Friday of Memorial Day Weekend

IMG_1118

Early morning. Coffee in hand.
Sam at my feet. Waiting
for the Cardinals so
we can start our day.
I may be still, but a
mental
checklist is swirling.
Much to do before
the weekend festivities.
Summer seems tantalizingly
just within our reach.
Flowers planted. Deck
in welcome mode.
The summer that stretches
before us is golden.
No humidity or bridge
traffic or crowds.
Interesting how we
cull such delight
and anticipation from
such a somber holiday.
Perhaps remembering
the past contributes
to a heightened appreciation
of the gift of the present.

About Mary Jane

I am a retired English teacher. My husband, Frank, and I have lived on Cape Cod since 2000. I am a lifelong bread baker and writer and have been posting a blog on Falmouth Patch for the last few years. Savory Seasons has been largely devoted to recipes and food in general. I am hoping to expand my focus in this new blog.
