Let The Games Begin

Mornings are quiet
at the Marina these days.
It’s May after all; not July.
Boats being positioned
in slips and on moorings.
Empty now. Waiting to be
filled with people and dogs
and coolers and towels
and the various toys
of summer on the water.
On the shells
outside the Chart Room,
chairs wait, gathering strength
for the frenzy to come.
Knowing that their
neatly placed arrangement
will be jostled and
reconfigured by evening.
Anticipation palpable as sea spray.
So much pent up desire,
fueled by the depravation
of a long, cold winter.
Day winds down and
the Chart Room opens
for the season. The peace
of morning at the Marina
retreats into memory.
We’re at the starting line.
Let the games begin!

About Mary Jane

I am a retired English teacher. My husband, Frank, and I have lived on Cape Cod since 2000. I am a lifelong bread baker and writer and have been posting a blog on Falmouth Patch for the last few years. Savory Seasons has been largely devoted to recipes and food in general. I am hoping to expand my focus in this new blog.
