Scent Memory

IMG_1004I find it fascinating how a certain song or taste or smell can transport us to another time and place with laser like efficiency. Our minds capture these sense images and keep them safely tucked until something new calls the memory sharply into focus.

A bottle of body lotion was this week’s ticket on the Memory Express. L’Occitane’s Verbena Body Lotion was on the shelf at the Chatham Bars Inn. The distinctive smell of lemon oil emanating from that bottle sent me back to our stay at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. We haven’t been back to the Coronado in years, but the scent of the body lotion that they share with Chatham Bars was a flashback to a fond memory.

A bottle Verbena Body Lotion now sits on my shelf at home. The memory lives on!
